Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this charming family navigate their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
