Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for questions to be raised about his position following a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the team's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Response
The manager lamented recurring weaknesses from his team in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell of this nature with results this poor.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is taken away, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, prove again what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
