The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
