Two Victims Revealed in the Providence Campus Attack as Police Continue Manhunt for Killer.

Two students who lost their lives in Saturday’s violent attack in Providence were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their assailant carried on following the freeing by local law enforcement of the sole person questioned in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was described as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a ceremony on Sunday.

Cook was the vice-presidency of Brown’s division of the College Republicans organization, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared condolences on social media, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her family and friends, above all her mom and dad.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, family members said.

His name was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Law enforcement reported by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man arrested in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you have to regroup and head another way, and this is precisely what occurred over the last day or so.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our city”.

The shooter opened fire inside a lecture hall in the building on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press.

Law enforcement that raided the inn seized two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the individual was detained, the news agency reported.

Condition of the Injured

Among those wounded, a single scholar was discharged from care, stated Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in critical but stable condition, and another was critically ill, police said on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a independent school in Durham, North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Additional Memorials

Cook was remembered at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only here growing up... but at Brown she was an incredible light in that particular place as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the organization. “Ella was recognized for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she aided her club and fellow classmates,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by Umurzokov’s death in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the Umurzokov family, companions, and schoolmates and mourn the loss of his potential.”
